-
CEUs available for most healthcare professions
Option B: PALS Online Fast-Track
-
Online and in-person hybrid for new or renewing students
-
Must purchase online access from AHA directly - approx. (4 hrs) and instructor-led skills testing up to (2 hrs) in-person.

Is PALS the right course for me?
-
The PALS course is intended for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units that encounter pediatric patients on a regular basis.
What does this course teach?
-
The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills.
-
The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%.
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
-
Perform high‐quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) recommendations
-
Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
-
Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
-
Apply team dynamics
-
Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
-
Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
-
Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
-
Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
-
Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
-
Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
-
Implement post–cardiac arrest management
Ready to get certified in PALS?
The AHA offers 2 options for how you can get certified in PALS. You can take a full classroom course OR take a blended learning PALS course (includes HeartCode PALS + a hands-on skills session training). Please review and choose from the options below:
Option A - Classroom PALS Full Course
Format
-
Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency.
-
Classroom training for first time or students with expired cards.
Course Completion
-
Instructor-led Training (ILT): This course option is led by a PALS Instructor in a classroom setting. The student will complete online video prework lessons before coming to class in addition to a traditional PALS course, where all video lessons are conducted in class as interactive discussions with the students.
-
The PALS course uses precourse preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases to enhance the recognition and intervention of respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
Time
-
Class average 6-8 hours, with 2.5 hours of pre-course work.
-
Must provide proof of pre-course completion prior to classroom training.
Completion Card
PALS Provider Course Completion Card (eCard), valid for two years
Precourse Assessment Link
Mandatory Pre-Course Requirements
The AHA requires all students taking PALS to complete the Pre-Course Self-Assessment and Precourse Work.
-
After registration students will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to do the Pre-Course Work.
-
You can take the exam over until a passing grade is achieved.
-
You MUST print or email a copy of your precourse certificate with your name on it before class. Please send a copy to: training@veracitycpr.com
Option B - Blended Learning HeartCode® PALS
Format
Complete the online portion + hands-on skills session with an AHA Instructor in a classroom setting.
Course Completion
-
HeartCode PALS Online uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to PALS mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance and their self-reported confidence level related to each probe.
-
The course content is presented in the form of self-guided learning content, probes, and Cognitive Assessment Activities. After completing the online portion, students will attend a structured, Instructor-led hands-on session that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols and skills testing.
Time
-
With the new adaptive learning format, the timing for completing the online portion of HeartCode PALS can vary depending on the student’s level of experience. Could take up to 4hours.
-
The hands-on session for HeartCode PALS will take approximately 2 hrs
Completion Card
PALS Provider Course Completion Card (eCard), valid for two year
Core Course Objectives
-
Perform High-Quality CPR: Deliver basic life support (BLS) according to AHA recommendations for both infants and children.
-
Systematic Assessment: Use a structured "Evaluate-Identify-Intervene" approach to pediatric assessment.
-
Respiratory Management: Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure and perform early interventions.
-
Circulatory Management: Identify compensated versus decompensated (hypotensive) shock and provide appropriate treatment.
-
Arrhythmia Recognition: Differentiate between stable and unstable patients with arrhythmias (bradycardia and tachycardia) and apply medical management.
